Background
Micro-Yucatan miniature swine have the same origin as the Yucatan miniature swine:

- Developed from 25 animals imported from southern Mexico into the United States in 1960 at Colorado State University with funding from the Kroc Foundation
- Introduction of a small Yucatan boar from Thompson Research to the Colorado State University breeding program resulted in “Martha”, the first micro-sized Yucatan
- Charles River Laboratories assumed the breeding of the Micro-Yucatan in 1985
- Sinclair Bio Resources acquired the colony in 2002
- The colony is located in Windham, ME
- The colony is closed and fully-pedigreed
