This study measured baseline and short-term food-denial stress-induced plasma cortisol in four lines of juvenile miniature swine (Hanford, Yucatan, Sinclair S-1, and Göttingen) and found that all strains showed increased cortisol after the stressor, but the magnitude of the response varied by lineage. Sinclair S-1 minipigs had the lowest baseline cortisol and the smallest cortisol increase (~14%), while Yucatan and Göttingen had the largest stress responses (over ~125%).
